NFL: Broncos: Shane Ray back in surgery – months off

Next setback for Shane Ray of the Denver Broncos: The pass rusher had already missed several games in the pre-season, now he has to compete with first-round pick Bradley Chubb – and is out for months again.

That’s what NFL network insider Ian Rapoport reports. Ray had to undergo surgery for an injury to his left wrist and will be out for three months – at least.

At the beginning of the week, the 25-year-old again had pain in his wrist, on which he had already undergone several operations in recent months. The new operation now throws him back sensitively in the internal race for snaps, the long forced break could also endanger an operation for the start of the regular season.

For Ray, this is the worst possible start to a critical season. The Broncos had not taken the option on the fifth year of the contract, which means that Pass-Rusher 2018 will enter the last year of his rookie deal. In his injury absence, Bradley Chubb and Shaquil Barrett will now fight for snaps against Von Miller and possibly recommend themselves for more. That leaves Ray as just a rotary rusher.
