MLB: Zach Britton before returning to the Baltimore Orioles

Reliever Zach Britton is about to return to the Baltimore Orioles. The left-hander threw a strong inning for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and could return to the O’s MLB squad next Wednesday.

Britton tore his Achilles tendon in his right foot during individual training last December and had to undergo surgery afterwards.

In his rehab assignment in the Minor Leagues he pitched 4 1/3 innings so far and only played two hits (5 SO).

The plan is for Britton to pitch again on Sunday and then Monday before heading back to the Orioles. There he would return to the squad either against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday or against the Miami Marlins on Friday.

“You can see he’s scraping his hooves,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters: “He’s had plenty of time to work on himself now. He doesn’t try too much. He throws the right amount of breaking balls. And I think he knows what’s coming.”
