NBA: Durant: “Just to be the best player if you don’t have good players”

Kevin Durant has just won his second ring in the second year at the Dubs with the Golden State Warriors and was chosen as final MVP. The 29-year-old spoke to Yahoo Sports about what he felt was needed to be the best basketball player in the world.

“I just think it’s best to be the best player if you don’t have good players. I find it much harder to stand out when you have great players around you,” Durant is quoted by Yahoo Sports’ Michael Lee. “I’m proud to stand out wherever I play. I’m proud to work hard wherever I play. These guys accept me and I feel like a warrior.”

Durant received harsh criticism in the summer of 2016 for his decision to sign with the Warriors. The team from Oakland had won 73 in the season but lost a 3-1 lead in the finals against LeBron and the Cavs. KD was already one of the best players in the NBA at OKC at the time. The 7-footer had one MVP title and four scoring titles.

In this year’s finals Golden State overtaxed Cavaliers with a smooth sweep. While LeBron James averaged 34 points, 10 assists and 8.5 rebounds, the rest of the team just scored 42.8 points and 22 rebounds.
