The well-known American restaurant chain IHOP changed its name to “IHOb” in a major advertising campaign on Monday to draw attention to its extensive range of burgers. The Social Media Department of the Philadelphia Phillies took this as an occasion to troll a little.
IHOP is an abbreviation and stands for the “International House of Pancakes”. One stands primarily for pancakes, which the American usually enjoys for breakfast. In order to expand its customer base, the “P” was now solemnly turned into a “b” to address the burger enthusiast as well.
On social platforms like Twitter there were of course various reactions, which took the curious renaming on the scoop.
The Phillies social team also joined in, promptly posting a video on Twitter that parodied a corresponding video from IHOb and turned the Phillies logo into a “bhillies” logo. The tweet was accompanied by the remark: “We have a big announcement.”
But at the end of the day it was just a gag, of course, the Phillies are still called Phillies. And IHOb will probably be called IHOP again at the end of the campaign.
