NBA: Kyrie on early extension: “Doesn’t make sense”

Kyrie Irving can become a free agent in the summer of 2019 and could extend his contract with Boston Celtics this summer. However, the Point Guard has no interest in this at the moment, even if he praises the development of the team. The playmaker does not even want to rule out a reunion with LeBron James.

“An extension in the summer makes no sense, neither financially nor contractually,” Irving explained at a promotion date for his Uncle Drew film.

Irving can become a free agent in the summer of 2019 and could negotiate a contract extension with the Boston Celtics during this off-season. The playmaker could get a maximum of 107 million dollars for four years. However, if he does not withdraw his option in 2019, Irving could get up to 80 million more.

The Point Guard hopes, however, that his upcoming Free Agency will not be unnecessarily exaggerated, as he and the team have great goals for the coming season. “I want to reintegrate myself and focus on winning a championship. That’s my focus.” At the same time, Irving said that he would talk to management about his future during the season, but right now is not the right time.

Irving looks forward to the coming season with a lot of confidence, not least because without him and Gordon Hayward the Celtics forced a game 7 in the Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. “It was good to see what the team could do on this big stage. We’ve seen boys who will be stars in the years to come.”

Kyrie was referring to the strong performances of Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Terry Rozier, who caused a sensation in the playoffs together with veteran Al Horford. In the end only LeBron James was too big in the east.

As you know, this is a former Irving and Uncle Drew team-mate did not rule out a comeback of the former duo with the Cavs. “I’ve seen and experienced a lot in this business, we’ll see what management’s decision will be.”
