The Boston Celtics probably reached out their feelers to Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs in February. The Texans, however, refused with thanks and still do not want to trade their superstar.
According to Adrian Wojnarowksi of ESPN, the Celtics San Antonio made San Antonio a trade offer in February, but the Spurs immediately rejected it and did not negotiate further. What the Celtics offered, however, is not clear.
In general, the Spurs are still not interested in a trade with Leonard, even though Woj reports that besides the Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers have also shown interest.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will meet Leonard in the coming days and try to smooth the waves. Leonard could also sign the so-called Super Max contract with the Spurs, which could earn the forward 219 million dollars over five years. Kawhi could only get this deal from San Antonio.
Last season Leonard played just nine games due to a quadriceps injury and the Texans were also missing in the playoffs. Since the forward was not with the team, this caused big headlines.
