The Chicago Cubs put Brandon Morrow on the Disabled List. The closer had injured his back – taking off his pants.
After returning from the St. Louis weekend series early Monday morning, Morrow came home and suffered back cramps as he tried to take his pants off. “I just took my clothes off at home,” Morrow told reporters. “It was about 3 a.m., I was in front of my closet, pulled off my right trouser leg and the left one felt like a cramp in my back.”
Morrow added: “It’s frustrating every time you can’t play, especially when you fail because of something as stupid as taking off your pants.”
“We thought it would be wise to give him a few days off,” said manager Joe Maddon. “We just can’t act one pitcher less right now. You just can’t do that.”
Who takes on the closing role in the meantime depends on the respective situation. Justin Wilson tried his hand against the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 1 of the double header on Tuesday and gave up a 3-2 lead – the Cubs lost 3-4.
