NBA: Wade wants to become owner of SuperSonics

Dwyane Wade wants to become the owner of a team after his career. The Shooting Guard wants to bring the Seattle SuperSonics back to life. However, it is still not clear what will happen to his sporting career.

“I would definitely like to be part of a group of owners,” Wade announced in an interview in Bloomberg. “But I won’t buy a team, I’ll be short on money. But I would like to be part of an owner group. Commissioner Adam Silver supports the influence of players on owners.”

Wade would not be the first former player to join such a group. Grant Hill owns shares in the Atlanta Hawks, while Shaquille O’Neal is involved with the Sacramento Kings.

It is not yet clear when Wade will even take this step. “I have to end my career first,” Wade explained, but then added that he didn’t know when the time would come.

What is clear, however, is that Wade wants to bring back the Seattle SuperSonics, which emigrated to Oklahoma City in 2007 and are now called Thunder.

“I want a team in Seattle, I want the Soncis to come back,” Wade said. “I think Seattle is a great basketball city and I’d like to be a part of it.”

Wade has been playing in the NBA for 15 years and won three championships with the Miami Heat. In 2006, the Guard was named final MVP and took part in the All-Star Game twelve times.
