Alex Bregman drew attention with a curious action at the 11-3 home win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. He shaved off his mustache between two at-bats during the game.
Bregman started the game with a mustache and hit a popup in the first inning and managed a walk in the second inning – in which the Astros scored eight runs after all – but that didn’t seem to be enough for him.
In the fourth inning Bregman appeared without a moustache to the surprise of all observers. Altogether he was 0-4 with one run, one RBI and said walk.
“Before the game? Meanwhile? I had no idea. I don’t pay much attention to Alex’s shaving habits during the game. But I did like his mustache,” Pitcher and teammate Gerrit Cole told MLB.com: “I thought he could wear it. It was Jeff-Kent-esque. It was on his lip when he caught the line drive in the first inning, which got us out of an awkward situation. Personally I am a fan of the Schnäuzer, but I guess he was sent to the Minors. It became’DFA’d’. We wait for it to come back.”
