Isaac Bonga was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2018 draft at position 39. The German has now expressed himself for the first time and confirmed that he will play for the Lakers in the Summer League.
“I just couldn’t believe they actually pronounced my name. I was overjoyed and full of anticipation at the same time,” Bonga was quoted on the official website of his current employer Fraport Skyliners.
“Playing against the best basketball players in the world is really something special. I’ll enjoy every moment I’ve worked so hard for. Until then, I simply want to improve and focus on my further development,” Bonga continued.
The 18-year-old announced that he will play for the Lakers in the Summer League at the beginning of July. “It’s a good opportunity to get a feel for the NBA, especially for us Europeans.”
Bonga’s commitment is not yet official, which is why the Lakers have not yet issued a statement on German. The Lakers had grounded the pick the day before the Philadelphia 76ers draft, but this transcation may only be made official after the moratorium on July 6. At the Lakers Bonga could meet Moritz Wagner, who was also drafted by the Lakers.
