NBA: Cavaliers draw team option for Perkins

The Cleveland Cavaliers have drawn the team option in Center Kendrick Perkins’ contract. But that doesn’t mean he’ll be in their squad next season.

ESPN reports that the Cavaliers have drawn the $2.5 million player option in Perkins’ contract for the 2018-19 season. The 33-year-old veteran was only signed at the end of the last Regular Season, but did not play a single game afterwards.

However, the development does not mean that Perkins will be playing for the Cavs next season. Rather, it may have been a salary cap decision of the franchise to involve his contract in possible trades. Because in order to take up salary in a Deal, one must deliver as well as salary.

By the way, Perkins salary is not guaranteed yet: The Cavaliers don’t have to do that until they really trade him.
