The Minnesota Timberwolves will probably want to keep Jimmy Butler in the long run and offer the forward a maximum deal if he were qualified from July 9th.

This was reported by Marc Stein of the New York Times. According to this, the Timberwolves Butler have informed that they want to offer him the maximum offer of 110 million dollars for four years. According to the rules of the CBA, however, this will only be possible from July 9.

However, it is still completely unclear whether Butler would sign an early extension this summer. But if Butler waited another year, Jimmy Buckets could get a lot more on the open market.

Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune last suggested this. It is more likely that Butler will not sign a new contract until 2019, as he could then get the full five years. Also qualified for a four-year extension is Center Karl-Anthony Towns, who could sign a rookie extension this summer.
