NFL: Peterson: Roses “the opposite of reports”

The Arizona Cardinals have a promising rookie quarterback in their ranks for the first time in many years – and Josh Rosen is already making an impression on the veterans, including Patrick Peterson. The cornerback also talked about the new defense in the desert.

As a guest on The Rich Eisen Show, Peterson raved about roses: “I am very impressed. Seeing how he’s already making adjustments to the line and making sure everyone’s set up right – it almost seemed like he’d been around for a while. I was very, very impressed by his performances in the Spring Camp, the Minicamp and the OTAs. He’s very focused so far.”

Arizona’s star cornerback also addressed the reports on roses. Before the draft, he was repeatedly characterized as an unconventional guy, who is very intelligent, but accordingly also has to be constantly challenged in order to keep his focus on football high. Reports that Rosen is not always an easy player were also circulating.

Peterson emphasized that he himself did not pay too much attention to the reports before the draft anyway, “but quite honestly: since he has been here with us, he has been the exact opposite of the reports. How he already understands the offense and communicates with the boys, that impressed me very much. His throwing mechanics, his presence in the pocket and his game intelligence – all that is outstanding.”

On the other side of the ball, the Cardinals will take a completely different approach than in previous years: Less complicated and faster.

The new head coach Steve Wilks brings “a different atmosphere. This is neither meant positively nor negatively. He just changed things. We play fast, everybody likes that. We will play defensively much easier than in the last two years.”

In the new defense, the approach is no secret: “When we play cover-3, it’s clear that we don’t beat anyone with the scheme. We want teams to adapt to us. That will make us more dangerous. “We want to play faster and make fewer mental mistakes.”
