In his second Summer League game, Moritz Wagner and the Lakers suffered their second defeat. This time the German played quite inconspicuously. In Salt Lake City, between the jazz and grizzlies, the mail went off.
Points: John Collins (19) – Derrick White (21)
Rebounds: Jock Landale (8) – Jaron Blossomgame (10)
Assists: Jaylen Adams (4) – Derrick White (9)
Both teams had lost the day before and wanted to correct this. The Spurs Atlanta dominated this venture at will. Apart from the 2-0 lead in the opening phase, the Hawks were not leading a single time, with just under 30 points before half-time.
Atlanta rebounded to 12 points in the last quarter, but back-to-back threesomes on the other side ended the scandal. Derrick White, who was already the best man against the Jazz San Antonios, convinced again with an allaround performance (21 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds). No.5-Pick Trae Young did not have much to offer in 26 minutes of play (12 points, 5/16 FG). After all: In the fourth quarter he had a hot phase with three field goals in a row – his potential certainly flashed.
Points: Naz Mitrou-Long (19) – Wayne Selden/Kobi Simmons (20)
Rebounds: Tony Bradley (14) – Jaren Jackson Jr. (8)
Assists: Naz Mitrou-Long (8) – Wayne Selden (6)
Was this really a Summer League game? It certainly didn’t feel like it – over 10,000 spectators cheered on the hosts from Salt Lake City. And they also saw a very appealing game.
Their team was 26 points behind in the first half, but did not want to give up yet. In the fourth quarter they even managed the first lead of the game thanks to a 15:0 run. The Grizzlies, however, also had an answer in their quiver – and fought back with their own, decisive run.
The outstanding Jaren Jackson with 10 points and 8 rebounds on the previous day was not so striking this time, Grayson Allen on the other side was not used.
