NBA: 3-Team Trade! Biyombo goes to Charlotte

The night after Sunday, Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic and the Chicago Bulls set up a three-team trade. A total of four players changed teams.

The Magic got Jerian Grant from Chicago and Timofey Mozgov from the Hornets. They sent Bismack Biyombo back to the Hornets, where his career began in 2011 as No.7 Pick. The Bulls get a Guard with Julyan Stone from Charlotte, whose contract is unguaranteed and could be waived in August without additional costs.

The Magic had been looking for a backup guard for D.J. Augustin, now Grant should give it to them. Biyombo, on the other hand, would have played only a reduced role anyway, because Orlando had also drafted a centre in position 6 with Mohamed Bamba. Mozgov will now take on the role of backup center.

The Bulls can decide by August 1 whether they want to guarantee Stone’s 1.65 million salary. If they release him, they could make a total of $16 million in cap space.

The Hornets, on the other hand, have also saved a little money through the deal. With the Biyombo contract, which guarantees the center a total of 34 million dollars over the next two years, they are currently at a payroll of 120 million dollars and are thus 3.4 million below the limit for luxury tax.

Mozgov was traded for the second time this summer. Only on 20 June the Russian was shipped by trade from Brooklyn to Charlotte for Dwight Howard.
