On day 3 of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas all three Germans won, Isaiah Hartenstein was topscorer with 12 points. The Hawks had to give up top pick Trae Young early on, the Dallas Mavericks won without Luka Doncic.
Points: Jordan Lloyd(17) – Keita Bates diop (24)
Rebounds: OG Anunoby (7) – Amile Jefferson (13)
Assists: Cody Miller McIntyre (4) – Jonathan Stark (5)
The Wolves had this matter well under control. They did not dominate the full 40 minutes, but were always there when the Raptors threatened to look up. This was also the case at the beginning of the final quarter, when Toronto led briefly with 2 points, but the Wolves responded with an impressive run.
They finally won the fourth quarter with 32:19. Not only the performance of Keita Bates-Diop, but also the fact that Josh Okogie (16 points, 4 rebounds) had good actions again. On the other hand, O.G. Anunoby’s NBA experience (13 points, 5/15 FG) did not really help. Turnover (19 pieces) was a big problem for the Canadians.
Points: Jaron Blossomgame (22) – Devin Robinson (24)
Rebounds: Chimezie Metu (18) – Troy Brown Jr. (12)
Assists: Olivier Hanlan, Chimezie Metu, London Perrantes, Jeff Ledbetter (3) – Chris Chiozza (11)
Excluding the initial phase, the Spurs actually seemed like the sure winner for a long time. They were still leading in the first half with 20 points – but then had to swallow a bitter pill. Derrick White, so strong in previous games, injured his thigh and did not return to the floor.
Maybe that’s why the Wizards made a comeback. 27 seconds before the end they were only 1 point behind and in possession of the ball – but they did one of their 16 turnovers, here by kicking the sideline. The strong Jaron Blossomgame punished this on the other side with a putback dunk to 93:90, a subsequent desperate threesome of the otherwise strong Devin Robinson did not find his goal. So Blossomgame closed the bag from the free-throw line.
Points: Daryl Macon (17) – Willy Hernangomez, Dwyane Bacon (22 each)
Rebounds: Landry Nnoko (13) – Willy Hernangomez (10)
Assists: Derrick Walton Jr. (6) – Devonte’ Graham (7)
A 20:11 run in the last five minutes of the game decided this comparison for Charlotte. The Hornets could rely on Willy Hernangomez. The Spanish center scored 22 points (10/18 FG) and also took 10 rebounds for his double-double. Last year’s second-round pick Dwayne Bacon also contributed 22 points. No.12-Pick Mikal Bridges scored 14 points, second round selection Devonte’ Graham 12 and 7 assists.
At Miami, Derrick Jones Jr. started really well again, but had to leave the match injured after seven minutes with just 9 points. Ex-Michigan forward Duncan Robinson (10, 3/4 trio) again proved a hot hand from a distance, while Point Guard Derrick Walton Jr. (11, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals) delivered a bit of everything. Rashad Vaughn, who was still working for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, was also convincing with 17 points.
