MLB: “Serious damage” near Boston-Star

The Boston Red Sox have put pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez on the Disabled List. The left-handed man sustained a potentially serious ankle injury.

During Boston’s 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, Rodriguez was bent in his attempt to cover the first base and had to leave the field early. On Sunday, the Red Sox announced that there was “serious damage” to the injured ankle.

Rodriguez would not need surgery, but Lefty would have to wear a splint for at least two weeks before a new examination was scheduled.

Rodriguez is 11-3 this year with a 3.44 ERA over 19 starts.

Instead of Rodriguez, left-handed Brian Johnson was activated by the DL and made his next start on Sunday against Toronto (5-2 Boston).
