NBA: Cousins on the Warriors change: “Two nights without sleep”

DeMarcus Cousins has commented on his decision to join the Golden State Warriors. The trial cost him a lot of sleep. There were no offers from other (good) teams. He was not interested in other people’s opinions.

“I was totally fucked this morning[on the day of the decision, July 2nd]. I stayed up for two nights,” he said in a Showtime Sports video at the time before signing with the Dubs.

He also talked about the time of the negotiations before reaching an agreement with the Warriors. “We’ve contacted other teams. No offer came from the Pelicans. I understand that – they had a great year and didn’t want to ruin it by taking in a broken player.” He was referring to his Achilles tendon rupture, which he had contracted in January 2018.

Cousins continues: “We have spoken to other teams. Some people gave pretty dumb answers and rambled about that I wasn’t in good shape or anything. Other teams were direct and admitted they don’t want to take the risk of my injury.”

Although he had received decent offers from bad teams, “what good would that have done me? I’m already struggling with a career-threatening injury. I knew then how my decision to join the Warriors would be perceived. But I don’t care.”
