NBA: 5 questions about Schröder-Melo-Trade: Winners everywhere

The Atlanta Hawks trade in a three-team trade to Oklahoma City according to consistent media reports by Dennis Schröder. In return Carmelo Anthony, who will probably never play a game for the Hawks. The Philadelphia 76ers are also involved. SPOX answers the most important questions about the next major trade.

Two teams, in this case Atlanta and Oklahoma City, had a problem and solved it with the trade. The Hawks send Dennis Schröder, probably their best player of last season, to Oklahoma City, while the Thunder get the salary of Carmelo Anthony from the books. The former star forward had drawn his player option in the amount of 27.9 million dollars before the Free Agency.

Of course, the Hawks also let the fact that Atlanta took in this big chunk of money sweeten the NBA’s cycle. The franchise from Georgia gets a first round pick for the year 2022 from OKC. However, this is subject to certain protections. Atlanta will only be eligible if the Thunder reach the playoffs in that year. If OKC lands in the lottery, the pick turns into two second-round picks for the Hawks in the coming years.

Besides Schröder and the Pick, the Hawks also get Forward Justin Anderson from the Philadelphia 76ers, who were also part of the Three Team trade. The ex-Mavs player was acquired just a good year ago in exchange with Andrew Bogut from Dallas. In return, Stretch Big Mike Muscala moved from the south of the USA to Philadelphia.

But the Sixers gave up another player in this deal, the French winger Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. He showed good beginnings – especially when Philly was still in full rebuild mode – but was not more than a role-player during the 50 wins season. At 23, however, he is still quite young and has the potential to help a good team.
