Dennis Schröder declared his trade to the OKC Thunder in an interview with the Bild am Sonntag. He liked the winning mentality there, and he had already had contact with superstar Russell Westbrook. And for the Hawks, he feels nothing but gratitude.
His first reaction when he heard about the trade with the Thunder was “very positive”. “It’s a great thing to play with stars like Russell Westbrook or Paul George. In addition, the Thunder are a club that has had a winning mentality for years,” Schröder said in an interview.
But the trade didn’t come out of nowhere for him because he had already spoken to the Thunder bosses and head coach Billy Donovan in advance. “They said how they wanted my part. It all sounded very positive. That’s why I said I wanted to go there.”
In OKC he meets superstar Russell Westbrook, behind whom Schröder will probably have to queue. “He wrote me on Friday night. He greeted me, we talked about the summer, what we still have to do. He was very friendly and offered to help me directly,” Schröder explained.
There is no longer any bad blood against the Atlanta Hawks, whom he is said to have asked for a trade: “I want to thank them for five successful years. You taught me a lot, a lot. How to behave on and off the pitch. Also a big thanks to coach Mike Budenholzer! Of course, I wish the whole organization good luck for the future.”
