MLB: Trade! Renowned reinforcements for New York

The New York Yankees have won the bidding for Reliever Zach Britton. The Bronx Bombers agreed with the Baltimore Orioles on a trade that sends the left-hander to the Big Apple. In return, the O’s get three pitching prospects.

Britton was considered the best relief on the market after Kelvin Herrera, Brad Hand and Jeury’s Familia had already found new teams.

“I’m not there yet, but when I enter the cabin there, I’ll know what it feels like to be part of a successful team,” said Britton about the prospect of joining the Yankees. “I hope I can get in right away and do a good job.”

The Yankees outdid the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs, all of whom were bidding according to consistent media reports.

Britton missed the first few months of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon in the off-season. He made his season debut on June 12 and is making $12 million this season. The Yankees will take over the remaining approximately $4.3 million in full. After the season, Britton becomes a free agent for the first time in his career.

For the left-hander, the Orioles will receive the starters Dillon Tate, Josh Rogers and Reliever Cody Carroll. Tate was the ninth-best prospect of the Yankees organization and was drawn by the Texas Rangers as the fourth pick overall in the 2015 draft.
