NBA: Melo about OKC: “It just didn’t work out”

Carmelo Anthony has commented on his disappointing season at the Oklahoma City Thunder. The reason for the failure was that he came to the team too late. He also talked about his buyout.

“It just wasn’t right,” Anthony said about his season with the Thunder at a Nike event in Washington. This could have been due to the fact that “everything was so hectic. The trade only became known on Media Day and I wasn’t there until the first day of the training camp. But the guys had been together before that for a long time, I was just late.”

This was the reason why the whole season had been so inconsistent, as he first had to find out how everything went together. “And often I had to do it on my own because no one was there to help me.”

Now, in the offseason 2018, Anthony was traded and waived by the Thunder to the Hawks. “It used to be that when you were armed or when there was a buyout, you were finished,” Anthony said. “But nowadays it’s the norm. If it doesn’t work with a player, there is a buyout or trade. That’s what it’s like in basketball and society today. I’ll get over it.”

Actually, Melo explained, he had wanted to defend himself for a long time against a buyout variant – but in the end conversations with the family convinced him that it would probably be best for all sides.
