Earl Thomas is giving the Seattle Seahawks some headaches with his holdout. Coach Pete Carroll on the sour side of the training camp that Thomas “should be here”. With the Atlanta Falcons, on the other hand, an agreement with Julio Jones is in the pipeline.
“He should be here, but he’s not,” a grumpy Pete Carroll summed up the situation surrounding his superstar safety Earl Thomas on the fringes of Training Camp. As expected, Thomas did not show up at the start of the training camp on Thursday. Reason is the disagreement about his contract.
Thomas enters his final year of contract and wishes for an early extension. He recently did not shy away from publicly expressing his demand in order to increase further pressure on the franchise and to make potential interested parties listen attentively.
The Safety last declared not to participate in any team activities until his contractual situation has been clarified. He will earn a basic salary of $8.5 million in 2018 and forgo $40,000 for each day he does not attend the training camp. “We expect him back,” Carroll continues. “He’s under contract here.”
Meanwhile, there is good news from the Atlanta Falcons. According to a public statement of the franchise, superstar video out Julio Jones is now supposed to take part in the training camp. This was announced by the team in tweet.
Apparently the Falcons have agreed with Jones on an adjustment of the contract terms. This is reported by Ian Rapoport.
News that may not make fans of the Oakland Raiders happy concerns Khalil Mack. According to a report by Adam Schefter, Team Jon Gruden’s new head coach and the defensive end superstar have never spoken to each other.
Mack went on strike because he is entering his last year of rookie contract and has not yet been able to make a new deal with the franchise. The Defensive Player of the Year 2016 announced that the holdout could continue into the regular season.
Gruden is said to have tried to contact Mack. According to a report by ESPN, however, the attempt failed. Mack will make $13.8 million in the 2018 season.
Also with the Rams there are contract disputes with one of the top pass rushers of the league. Aaron Donald is also in the holdout and the latest deals the franchise made with Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks may have pissed him off a bit.
According to a report by Adam Schefter, Aaron Donald will not play another down under the current contract. Donald already struck in the last Saioson, skipped the first two games of the season without success.
Now the defensive tackle finally wants to see his wish come true, no matter what the cost. If Donald does not report to the team up to one month before the start of the Regular Season, his Free Agency will be one year behind.
