MLB: Jersey auctioned for 1.3 million!

A World Series 1964 jersey worn by Hall-of-Famer Mickey Mantle was auctioned for $1.32 million (€1.14 million). The outfielder beat home runs in this jersey in two games for the New York Yankees.

Mantle beat home runs at the St. Louis Cardinals in both Game 6 and Game 7, but he never averted St. Louis’ ultimate success. Mantle himself, however, screwed his account to 18 home runs in the Classic case, which are still a record today.

The price achieved is a new record for an auctioned mantle jersey. Previously, an away kit from 1968 – his final season in the MLB – had come under the hammer for 486,000 dollars.

However, the all-time record for an auctioned baseball jersey remains with a Babe Ruth jersey from 1920: it was sold for $4.415 million in 2012.
