NBA: PG-13 criticizing legends about super teams

The formation of super teams has been a controversial issue in the past. Former stars in particular have repeatedly expressed criticism. Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder now defended the trend of the super teams.

“No team has won a title with a single star,” said George Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post. “This era doesn’t exist. “I don’t know why the legends don’t understand this.”

In recent years, large numbers of stars have formed, such as the Boston Celtics with the arrival of Kevin Garnett, the Big Three of Miami Heat or, more recently, the Golden State Warriors.

“The game is completely different nowadays. I don’t know why these guys bring that up and say we’re different these days. I don’t get it. Who are we kidding? Who would try to beat the warriors alone?”

As an example PG-13 brought LeBron James, who was swamped by the dubs in the finals with a decimated Cavs squad in 2018. “This shows well that one player alone is not enough. The best player in the league didn’t make it. You need several good players to win a championship.”

According to George, another factor in building super teams is the greater power of the players, which was not previously the case. “Players had to stay with their teams back then. The front office built the team around one player, that doesn’t exist anymore. Players understand that and know what it takes to succeed.”
