MLB: Playoffs 2018: Mode, Schedule and Livestream

The champion of the MLB season 2018 will be determined in a playoff as usual. The Houston Astros are trying to defend their title from last year. SPOX explains the mode of the MLB postseason and reveals where to watch the games in the live stream.

Last year, the Astros crowned Wold Champion in the World Series in seven close, rousing matches against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The way to the World Series is a long one, after 162 games in the Regular Season at least eleven more games are waiting in October.

DAZN shows the MLB playoffs as well as a selection of regular season games live and on demand. A subscription to the online streaming service costs 9.99 euros per month, the first 30 days are even free. All games of the MLB playoffs can be watched on MLB.TV, the league’s own paid stream.

The two MLB leagues, the National League and the American League, play out a winner in two separate competitions similar to the NBA or the NFL. Both leagues consist of 15 teams, each divided into three divisions.

Those teams that have the best record in their division in the Regular Season are permanently qualified for the Postseason. In addition, two wild card places will go to the two best non-division winners of each league. This means that ten of the 30 franchises are in the playoff.

In the first round, the two wild card teams play in a single match for entry into the so-called Divisional Series. The team with the better balance from the Regular Season has the right to go home.

In round two, the wild card winner will play the best team of the Regular Season, the Topseed. The series is played in best-of-five mode, so three wins are enough to advance to the next round, the Championship Series. In total there are four pairings in the Division Series, two each in the National League and the American League.

This leaves four teams in the League Championship Series fighting for entry to the World Series. The game is played here in best-of-seven format. The team with the better record in the Regular Season has home rights. The first four games to win qualify for the prestigious World Series.

After the league started play as early as never before on 29 March, the last day of the Regular Season will be Sunday, 30 September. This also means that the World Series will probably be finished as early as October.

The first game will take place on October 23, a possible Game 7 will take place on October 31. However, a detailed schedule will only be announced during the season.
