MLB: All-time record in Cardinal’s edge victory

In the St. Louis Cardinals’ 12-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field on Sunday, First Baseman Matt Carpenter set an all-time record. At the same time, the Cardinals continued a successful series.

Carpenter is currently playing at an outstanding level and was even awarded “MVP” choirs by the Cardinals fans who came along for his performance. On his clear away win he was 4-5 with two runs and two RBI. The special thing about it: Carpenter beat four doubles in the game – no one in the history of MLB has ever done more in one game.

Carpenter beat two doubles in the first inning alone, in which the Cardinals scored a total of six runs. This was followed by another fourth inning in which St. Louis scored four more runs.

With this result, the Cardinals have now won twelve series in a row. Their provisional reward: They lead half a game ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Wildcard and are only four games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

Carpenter was then asked whether this current run could last until the end of the season: “I don’t know why that shouldn’t last until the end of the year. I can’t see why that wouldn’t work,” Carpenter was confident.

Carpenter himself now has 34 home runs and 38 doubles, putting him in first place in both categories in the National League. If he held these positions until the end of the season, he would be the first double and home run leader of the NL in a season since Willie Stargell, who succeeded in doing so in 1973.
