MLB: Toronto-Star announces comeback for 2019

Troy Tulowitzki will not return to the Toronto Blue Jays this season. Nevertheless, the veteran vows to make his comeback in 2019 – and that in his traditional position.

Tulowitzki’s season was officially declared over on Saturday. He hasn’t played in the MLB for over a year now. At the beginning of the season he underwent surgery on both heels to remove bone spurs and made no play.

“It’s been a tough year, to be honest,” Tulowitzki told reporters. “I went to Florida and was there every day at the training ground trying to get fit. But the heels just didn’t show the reaction I would have needed to return and play every day.”

In Tulowitzki’s absence, the Blue Jays put eight players on shortstop, with Aledmys Diaz playing mainly in this position. Tulowitzki now said that he wanted to take up the challenge of regaining his core position: “I welcome the competition. If someone is better than me, then I pack my things and go home,” said the two-time Gold Glove winner.

Tulovitzki will earn $20 million in the coming season and $14 million in 2020, as well as a club option for 2021 with a $4 million buyout.

Tulowitzki have missed at least 30 games each in the last seven seasons and eight of his last nine.
