The New York Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. have agreed on a new contract that makes the Star receiver the highest paid passport recipient of the NFL. This was unanimously reported by the US media.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN, OBJ is extending its term with the Giants for five years in exchange for a guaranteed $65 million. The total volume of the deal is expected to be 95 million dollars.
With an annual salary of $20 million, Beckham replaces Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers (17 million a year) and Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (55 million guaranteed) as the league’s best paid wideouts.
Although the 25-year-old first-round pick did not holdout in 2014, he emphasized that he would insist on a new contract at much better conditions. OBJ would have entered his final rookie contract year without renewal, according to which he would have received only $8.4 million.
Following the conclusion of negotiations, Beckham is likely to return to the Giants roster at the season opener on 9 September against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Up to now, the Wide Receiver has not participated in any preseason game.
Beckham only finished one of his previous four seasons at the gaints below 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns. Last year, the wideout broke his ankle against the San Diego Chargers in the fourth week, missing most of the 2017 season.
