When Kirk Cousins opted for the Minnesota Vikings in the off-season, he opted for the better sporting prospects and against the better financial offer. The New York Jets are said to have made him the better offer here.
In a new documentation on the official team website of the Vikings the process around Cousins’ contract negotiations and the final signature is presented. At one point during the first episode, cousins told his wife that the jets have offered him a contract for $90 million.
But not only the offer of the jets was already higher at this time, just like that of the Vikings it was also fully guaranteed. Cousins’ player advisor Mike McCartney was finally able to use it to negotiate a better deal than the $25 million offered over three years that the Vikings had offered.
Cousins finally signed a contract for a fully guaranteed $28 million a year, waiving a total of $6 million. At the Vikings in the 2018 season, however, he will be playing with a team that was only one win away from the Super Bowl in the pre-season. The jets are still in the middle of a rebuild.
