NFL: Trade! Bridgewater to Brees and the Saints

The New Orleans Saints apparently signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater of the New York Jets. According to US media reports, the jets will in return receive a third round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

At the Saints, Bridgewater will play the role of backup for Drew Brees. The 25-year-old quarterback performed well in the off-season and in the three preseason games of the jets so far and showed no aftereffects from his severe knee injury, which he suffered in training with the Minnesota Vikings almost two years ago.

Bridgewater lost his regular position with the Vikings and even had to fear for his career. It took the Pro Bowler one and a half years to recover. At the end of last season, Bridgewater became a free agent.

However, the jets moved Sam Darnold to third place in the draft as future franchise quarterback, and the more experienced Josh McCown is available in New York as backup.
