A second of shock to the Boston Red Sox. David Price was hit by a comebacker on the left hand in a 14-6 win over the Miami Marlins and had to leave the game early. X-rays, however, showed no breakage.
The left-handed man will, according to his own statements, undergo further tests to rule out any other injuries. “I think everything’s fine,” Price told reporters. “We’ll look from day to day and see what tomorrow will look like.”
Price was hit on the wrist by a ball that Austin Dean hit with two outs in the third inning because he raised his arm to protect himself from the head. The ball bounced from there to the right of the mound onto the ground. First baseman Steve Pearce grabbed the equipment and threw it to first base, which Price then occupied for the final out of the inning.
Price then went into the cabin with pain in his hand and was replaced. In the game he played five hits and three runs.
Whether he will be able to complete his next start on Monday in Atlanta is still open, as manager Alex Cora explained.
