On Friday the German national basketball team will start the 30th edition of the Supercup. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the squad, the schedule and the TV broadcast of the tournament.
The VTG Supercup serves as preparation for the important qualifying matches for the 2019 World Cup on 13th September in Estonia and 16th September against Israel in Leipzig. Henrik Rödl’s team, with six victories from six first-round matches to date, has an excellent starting position for the leap to the final round in China.
The Supercup is now taking place in Hamburg for the third time in a row. The venue is the edel-optics.de Arena. Unlike in previous years, the tournament only takes place on two days due to the World Cup qualifiers: Friday, September 7th and Saturday, September 8th.
In addition to the German team, the following teams are participating in this year’s Supercup:
The German team still has a score to settle against their opening opponent Turkey: At their last meeting at the European Championship in their own country (2015), the DBB team lost 75:80. The German team already has better memories in Italy. At last year’s meeting, the team won 61-55, beating the Czech team four times in five games so far.
In this country, there is only one way to see the VTG Supercup live outside the stadium: Telekom Sport has secured the broadcasting rights for the event and will also broadcast the upcoming World Cup qualifiers live. Best of all, all Supercup games are free.
National coach Henrik Rödl has nominated the following 12 players for the upcoming matches.
