MLB: Star player exchanges jersey with fan in the game

First baseman Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds attracted attention on Monday with an unusual action. During the match, he exchanged a jersey signed by him for a T-shirt with the inscription “Votto for President” of a fan in the audience.

The Cincinnati Reds competed at the Pittsburgh Pirates (5:1 Pirates) in PNC Park on Monday. In the fourth inning, Votto discovered a fan in the stands in Right Field wearing this T-shirt and approached him. After a short talk the fan took off his T-shirt and gave it to Votto. A little later, the man received one of Votto’s jerseys.

Votto had not only signed the jersey, but also added a message: “More like Prime Minister,” because Votto is Canadian and therefore cannot become President of the United States.

“I’ve been trying to get this T-shirt for quite a while, so I was excited and tried to trade the shirt for a jersey and he agreed,” Votto described the unusual action.

The T-shirt was part of a promotion by Nike in 2012 and Votto had not kept any of it to himself at that time and now made up for it.

In the game itself, Votto came out empty-handed and was only 1-4, also beating into a double play. But no one took his T-shirt anymore.
