MLB: Fan of flying racket hit

A moment of shock in Fenway Park: In Wednesday’s game of the Boston Red Sox against the Toronto Blue Jays (1-0), an onlooker was hit in the head by a flying bat and had to be carried out.

The racket had slipped out of the hands of guest player Devon Travis in the eighth inning and flew to the stands in the high arch.

The racket flew over the safety net along the baselines and finally landed about 15 rows high up in the pit area. Security staff finally brought the fan towels for a bleeding wound to the head and then transported him on a stretcher.

The man was finally cheered after he was back on his feet. Afterwards he was brought upright from the grandstand.

Further details of the viewer’s state of health are not known.
