MLB: “Blockbuster Trade” between Boston & New York

On Tuesday there will be a spectacular exchange between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The radio commentators of both teams will change places.

The fourth inning will be the time. Yankee radio icon John Sterling will take Joe Castiglione’s microphone in the cabin of “WEEI”, while the latter will become active for “WFAN”.

Sterling will work with expert Tim Neverett, while Castiglione will join Suzyn Waldman.

“It’s just a nice idea,” said Sterling, who continued: I don’t think anyone should take it too seriously. “The world won’t change, but it sounds like fun, and I’m looking forward to it.”

In this context, the question naturally arose whether Sterling would present one of his famous personalized home run calls if a Boston player should beat a homer in the inning. His answer: “If I could think of something spontaneously, yes,” Sterling said and added: “But I certainly won’t prepare anything. But if they hit a home run, I’ll do my best.”

But Castiglione will not unpack Sterling’s “It is High, it is far, it is gone!”, as he emphasized: “Everyone knows where our sympathies lie.” But would he be able to comment on a Yankees Homun more excited than one of the Red Sox in the inning? “I don’t know,” Castiglione replied, but laughing admitted: “I could fake it.”

However, both have extensive experience. Castiglione has been commenting on the Boston Red Sox games on the radio since 1983, while Sterling has been the voice of the Bronx Bombers since 1989.
