Alpine Skiing: ÖSV World Champion ends his career

Marcel Mathis has finished his alpine skiing career. The 26-year-old announced on Instagram that he no longer wants to race in the World Cup, as he could no longer reach the level of a few years ago. In the 2012/13 season Mathis became world champion with the ÖSV team at the home world championship in Schladming.

“Now the bottle is empty. It’s time to put my tight racing suit aside and face new challenges,” Mathis told the social network. “It’s never easy to leave behind what you’ve always loved. I’ll always keep those memories.”

Mathis has been living in England for six months, where he found a new profession. In the World Cup the giant slalom specialist achieved two third places.
