NBA: Irving on bizarre theory, “I’m sorry.”

Kyrie Irving apologized in an interview for his claim that the earth is a disc. In February 2017 Irving had caused a lot of fuss with this statement.

“To all the teachers out there, I’m sorry,” Irving explained at the Forbes Under 30 conference in Boston after he was approached about the statements.

At the time, he was intensively involved with conspiracy theories and underestimated the power of his own words. “At the time, I didn’t realize the impact of the statement,” the Point Guard said.

In a podcast with Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, his Cleveland Cavaliers teammates at the time, Irving questioned whether the earth was really round. “This isn’t even a conspiracy theory. I tell you, the earth is a disc,” Irving said at the time.

His statements had caused a lot of fuss in the NBA world. Even Commissioner Adam Silver commented on the 26 year old’s words: “Kyrie and I went to the same university. He obviously attended other courses,” joked Silver.
