A home run by George Springer in the Houston Astros’ 7-2 win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday cost a fan nearly $500. He’d predicted a home run before and then had to buy a drink.
“I just love my team,” Eddie Flores told the Houston Chronicle. “I just knew Springer was gonna knock you out, and I wanted everyone to know that. I predicted it.”
Flores told the fans in section 103 of Minute Maid Park that he would buy everyone a beer if Springer hit a home run in the fifth inning. And Springer delivered when he hit a 3-2 pitch on the grandstand in left field.
“I was more excited about the homerun, but beer also played its part,” said Charles Adams, whose tweet made the beer campaign public in the first place. “Our section was totally beside itself,” he added to ABC 13.
The Chronicle reported that Flores bought beer for the seven rows behind him for more than $300. Then Jose Altuve looked up a home run right after and Flores looked up: “We bought beer for seven rows. Then there were two home runs in a row and I bought seven more rows of beer.”
