NBA: Phoenix Suns dismiss general manager

The Phoenix Suns have separated from General Manager Ryan McDonough. The franchise announced that on Monday. McDonough was GM of the Suns since 2013.

After careful consideration and a thorough evaluation of our basketball decisions, I have decided to relieve Ryan McDonough of his duties as General Manager of the Phoenix Suns,” majority shareholder Robert Sarver announced in a statement on Monday.

“Our short-term focus is on preparing for the upcoming NBA season and looking for ways to strengthen our squad,” Sarver continues. “During the season, we will review internal and external solutions to restructure our front office.”

James Jones, Vice President of Basketball Operations, and Assistant GM trevor Bukstein will take over the duties of the GM. Jones is responsible for coaches, players and employees, Bukstein for possible player changes. The Suns are still looking for a new Point Guard.

Last season the Suns finished with a score of 21-61. For eight years the team has been waiting for playoff participation, it is the longest active dry spell in the NBA.

The Suns begin the new season with a home match against the Dallas Mavericks in the night on 18 October.
