Telekom Baskets Bonn and medi Bayreuth have lost their opening matches in the Basketball Champions League. While the Franks lost 70:78 against Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul, the Baskets from Bonn lost 87:68 to Iberostar Tenerife.
Especially during the offensive, the landlords caught an evening in which almost everything worked. The Champions-League winner of 2017 hardly gave the Bonners a chance and took a decisive lead in the third third with an outstanding triple quota of 50 percent (10/20).
Bonn scored only 3 of 14 litters from downtown in the first half and therefore could not keep up with the offensive output of the Spaniards. Next week Telekom Baskets will meet PAOK Saoloniki in the Champions League.
Somewhat better than the Bonner made it medi Bayreuth against one of the title candidates in the Champions League. In a contested game, however, the Bayreuthers lost in the end Besiktas scarcely and start just like Bonn with a negative experience in the Champions League.
Istanbul thus took revenge for the surprising end in the Champions League round of sixteen last season. The top scorer of the game was Robin Benzing (20 points), who has been under contract in Istanbul since the beginning of September. On the Franken side, Hassan Martin was the best thrower with 14 points.
Next Tuesday, the Bayreuth-based company will be appearing in the Champions League at SIG Strasbourg. Two more BBL teams, the MHP giants Ludwigsburg and Brose Bamberg, will enter the group phase of the Champions League on Wednesday.
While Ludwigsburg is a guest of Banvit BK in Turkey (18h live on DAZN), the Bamberger Montakit receive Fuenlabrada (20h live on DAZN).
