NBA: Knicks sack Noah with Stretch Commission

The New York Knicks have fired Joakim Noah. For the French Center, the Big Apple franchise will apply the Stretch commission. The former Bulls player still had a contract until 2020.

Noah would have collected 18.5 million dollars each for the two seasons. By applying the Stretch Commission, the salary of the center for the last year of the contract is divided into three seasons. In the 2021/22 season, the Knicks’ cap will be burdened with 6.4 million, only then will Noah’s name disappear from the Knickerbockers’ books.

By stretching Noah, the Knicks still relieve their cap a little. The goal is to hunt the big free agents like Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving or Jimmy Butler in summer 2019. If the Knicks don’t agree on a Max Rookie extension with Kristaps Porzingis by October 15th, the team could have about $31 million in Cap Space this summer.

The Knicks had hoped until the end that a trade could be found for Noah, but according to information from Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN), this was mainly due to the fact that New York was not willing to throw assets such as picks or young players into a possible deal.

Since 2016, the Frenchman has played a total of 53 games for the Knicks, in which he averaged 4.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
