NBA: Clippers trade Wesley Johnson to Pelicans

The Los Angeles Clippers have traded winger Wesley Johnson to the New Orleans Pelicans, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic. In exchange, they receive the Center Alexis Ajinca, which was immediately released again.

The deal makes sense for the Clippers, especially from a financial point of view, as Ajinca “only” collects 5.29 million dollars, Johnson 6.13 million. Through the trade and the immediate release of Ajinca, L.A. saves a little money.

Apart from the center, the employment relationship with the second round pick of 2017 Jawun Evans was also terminated. The Clippers roster is now complete and Patrick Beverley and Tyrone Wallace have secured their squad place for the season.

Ajinca has cancelled the entire 2017/18 season with knee problems. Johnson averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 70 games. In addition, he is a solid Defender and will probably get a few minutes at the Pelicans.
