Handball: DHB Cup: SCM kicks out Champion Flensburg

SC Magdeburg has promoted the German champion and table leader SG Flensburg-Handewitt from the DHB Cup in the duel of the Bundesliga top duo. The team of coach Bennet Wiegert won in the far north with 31:28 (16:15) and reached the quarter finals like last year.

Swedish European runners-up Albin Lagergren and Austrian Robert Weber (both SCM) were the most successful throwers in the game with eight goals each.

VfL Gummersbach lost the duel of the old champions against Frisch Auf Göppingen with 24:25 (13:11).

Later on Wednesday evening, record cup winner THW Kiel defeated DHfK Leipzig without problems with 31:23 (15:8). Defending champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen had qualified for the round of the best eight on Tuesday at the Bundesliga promoted Bergischer HC only after extra time with 32:29.

The big goal of the teams is the Final Four in Hamburg on 6 and 7 April 2019.
