The Arizona Cardinals have separated from offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. This was the team’s reaction to the bitter 10:45 bankruptcy in the Thursday Night Game against the Denver Broncos.
It was McCoy’s third release in 22 months. By the end of 2016, the Chargers had dismissed him as head coach, and in November 2017 he was fired as Denver Broncos Offensive Coordinator.
The 46-year-old was already under pressure before the game against the Broncos: The Cardinals had previously only won one of their first six games of the season and were the worst offense in the league. McCoy did not succeed in helping rookie quarterback Josh Rosen to constant performances, Running Back David Johnson could also convince behind a holey offensive line.
After the game against the Broncos, who had been extremely weak Run Defense in both games before, turned out to be a disaster, the team has now pulled the rip cord. The new offensive coordinator is the previous quarterback coach Byron Leftwich.
The Cardinals (1-6) meet the San Francisco 49ers (1-5) in Week 8 next Sunday at home.
