Bayern Munich’s basketball players have returned to the top of the BBL table with their fourth victory in the fourth game at the league debut of long-time NBA professional Derrick Williams. On Sunday evening, the defending champion won the top match against the Telekom Baskets Bonn 102:91 (50:39), which had not yet been beaten, and thus pushed Alba Berlin back from the top.
The Berliners had celebrated their third victory in the third game at 92:74 on Saturday. Former serial champion Brose Bamberg also kept his clean slate and won his third game of the season. The Franks won on Sunday 93:88 (42:37) at the Eisbären Bremerhaven.
With three wins from four games, the BG Göttingen won 72:64 (38:28) at the Frankfurt Skyliners on Sunday. With a 78:77 (39:33) against the basketball lions Braunschweig medi Bayreuth managed the second victory in the third game.
Bavaria’s newcomer Williams celebrated after 428 games in the elite league NBA a strong BBL debut and was with 20 points together with Vladimir Lucic most successful thrower of Munich. Meanwhile, the national team player Danilo Barthel was responsible for a moment of shock. The forward injured his knee at the end of the first quarter and could not continue the game.
As the Munich team announced on Twitter at the end of the game, the injury is not as serious as initially feared, but an exact diagnosis can only be made after further investigations on Monday.
Bamberg, who celebrated their first success in the Champions League during the week with a 73-64 win against the French representative JDA Dijon Basket, was best thrower for Tyrese Rice with 19 points. Chris Warren scored 26 points for the polar bears.
