The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) has immediately parted company with the trainer who, according to a report in the news magazine “Der Spiegel”, was involved in a massive sexual assault on a young woman committed by several men before joining the ÖSV. “Der Spiegel” had reported that he was involved in a rape.
However, the man had been acquitted of this accusation. “There are incidents that may become legally statute-barred, but not morally”, ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel and Sports Director Hans Pum explain the suspension of the coach on Wednesday.
The man could be investigated and questioned after internal investigations. The incident happened years before he joined the ÖSV, but did not appear as a “minor conviction” in the criminal record certificate, which is why the ÖSV could not have been aware of it, according to a statement made by the association on Wednesday. Nevertheless, the cooperation was terminated immediately after the available information had been examined by external lawyers.
“The ÖSV must set an example, we expect an impeccable reputation from all officials and trainers. All ÖSV employees are committed to respectful treatment, respect for personal freedom and respectful behaviour”, emphasised Schröcksnadel in the declaration. The Austrian Ski Association expresses its sympathy for the woman affected.
However, Schröcksnadel is surprised at the time of the so-called unveiling just before the start of the ski season. Official contact points were set up months ago, which can also be contacted anonymously with concrete information.
