Alpine skiing: Skiing: Rebensburg scars past a pedestal

Ski racer Viktoria Rebensburg only passed the podium in a wafer-thin way at the start of the World Cup in Sölden, Austria. On the Rettenbach glacier, last year’s winner from Kreuth came fourth in the giant slalom at Schneetreiben, five hundredths of a second behind the third-placed Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin (USA).

It was won by World Champion Tessa Worley (France) ahead of Olympic bronze medallist Federica Brignone (Italy).

Rebensburg (29) started the second run 0.24 seconds behind Brignone in second place, but had big problems in difficult conditions and dropped back. Rebensburg, last season’s winner of the Giant Slalom World Cup, finished 0.99 seconds behind the first winner of the ski winter.

Lena Dürr (Germering) missed the second run of the 30 best athletes by 0.60 seconds and finished 38th. Veronique Hronek (Unterwössen/55th) and Andrea Filser (Wildsteig/60th) landed far behind.
