Tessa Worley has won the start of the new season in the Alpine Ski World Cup. At the giant slalom in Sölden, the French player prevailed with 35 hundredths of a second ahead of Federica Brignone from Italy, who was in the lead at half time. Third was Mikaela Shiffrin.

For Worley it was already the 13th World Cup victory. Stephanie Brunner came fifth as best Austrian.

Brunner had only suffered a serious injury in the spring. After a cruciate ligament rupture, she was not able to start snow training until mid-September. In view of the physical problems, she can be more than satisfied with the top position.

However, it was a strong team performance of the ÖSV ladies. A total of eight runners qualified for the second run, twice as many as the second strongest team, the Norwegians.

“I’m extremely glad it’s done. It was a fight today,” said Anna Veith, who finished 20th. “It’s a good sign that I’m in. It would have been better in places.”
