Alpine skiing: Too much snow! No race for Neureuther

The World Cup opening of the alpine ski racers in Sölden, Austria, was cancelled on Sunday morning. Snowfalls and strong winds made it impossible to carry out the planned giant slalom. This was announced by the organisers and the International Ski Federation FIS.

The first round, originally scheduled for 10.00 a.m., was initially postponed to 11.00 a.m., but was cancelled two hours later. In the night a lot of snow had fallen on the Rettenbach glacier, also the forecasts for the day were bad. A “safe race” could not be guaranteed under these circumstances, the organisers stated.

Already in the previous year the men’s giant slalom was cancelled due to wind. Due to the recent cancellation, the first men’s race of the season will take place on 18 November in Levi/Finland (slalom). Felix Neureuther (Partenkirchen), Fritz Dopfer (Garmisch) and Stefan Luitz (Bolsterlang) should have started on Sunday.
